Using Glass Paint on Canvass

Recently I have been really enjoying working with the glass paints  that we sell online. I feel that after months of playing and experimenting with them that I have developed as I have gone on with them more and more.

I have now been working on a canvas glass art project and have thoroughly enjoyed producing it too. A while ago my husband and I were talking about how we could develop my skills and the way of working with the glass paints and came up with the idea of Glass Art on canvas where by, I take one of my glass painted cards and interpret the design on the card on to the canvas and enlarge, making it into a piece of art to hang on the wall.  So, I took the plunge and used the card below to make a glass art canvas.

 

From here I interpreted the Glass painted flower onto a canvas, first by drawing it on with a pencil. I then painted the background with Titanium White Amsterdam Acrylic and mixed it with Heavy Gel Glossy, to give a gloss once dry. I then went over the lines of the flower with Gold Amsterdam Acrylic Paint with a Nozzle added, to give a relief of a line (allowing to hold the glass paint in between each line of gold. Once dry, I then got really crafty and started to fill in the areas of the flower with glass paint. I used Transparent White and Orange glass paint. Before applying the White Transparent paint I scratched on some gold paint as an underlay. Once all this glass paint was dry I then used a variety of pearlescent Rembrandt Acrylic Paints to interpret the flower sequins and took no time at all. These little pearlescent flowers really allow to stand the whole flower out.

Finishing Off With Acrylic

White Amsterdam Acrylic paint was used mixed with heavy gel glossy to give a gloss. I outlined the flower using Light Gold, using a nozzle, making it easier to draw with. Once dry I painted the flower areas with my Glass paints. Once dry I then took the Rembrandt pearlescent Acrylics and used various colours; Red, Violet, Blue, Green & Yellow. these represented the transparent sequins I used in the card. the white dots around the flower I created using white relief paint, creating the white seed beads. I then somehow needed to create a 3d paper rose and a close friend of mine on a craft forum gave me a link to a tutorial on how to make a 3D rose using patterned papers. So, I followed it and created the rose in the middle using 3x patterned papers, scissors, glue and a tooth pick. Once glued together I adhered to the centre of the flower and left to dry.

This Glass Art Piece was spectacular to produce and seeing it coming together was amazing. This is my first ever Glass Art and I intend to produce many more. many Artists or Crafters would probably initially think to paint with your usual acrylic, oil, gouache  paints but, to be different using Glass paint, which can be used on many surfaces, is a remarkable and magical craft material to work with on canvas as well as in cardmaking.
